One ofthe key success factors in acheiving your goals after your recent weight loss surgery is getting the support from others who are going through the same experience as you are as well as from your weight loss professionals support team – thats us!

So to help you along the path we are launching a regular support group and the first meeting will be on Wednesday August the 3rd at 7:00 PM in the boardroom at St George Private Hospital, 1 South Street, Kogarah.

Our theme for the first support group is “Slaying Your Dragons” and we’ll be talking about overcoming some of the major obstacles encountered after bariatric procedures.

Its a very relaxed environment and an opportunity to meet with other people who are also sharing your journey as well as an opportunity to talk in an open forum with  folks from the Upper GI team.

Our forum moderator will be Narelle Storey, one of Australia’s most experienced bariatric nurses and patient support specialists so please RSVP as soon as possible by calling one of the team on 02 9553 1120 and letting us know you’ll be coming along.

      Jane,

We will be offering support group sessions using the Internet shortly as well so that you’ll be able to participate remotely and view recordings on demand.

Thanks for your interest in the support groups.

  2. Lisa McLaren says:

A huge thank you to Michael and the Upper GI Team for the absolute privilege to participate in the inaugural support group evening on Wednesday night. Whilst our results are truly inspirational to each other and we need support to stay on track, our successes are a reflection of the passion and skill that the professional team at Upper GI have afforded us. Bariatric surgery is the tool we have been given to slay our ability to consume excess food, but it has taken people like Michael to acknowledge that morbidly obese people are human with complex medical issues rather than stigmatise them as deserving substandard healthcare.
From my own perspective that attitude has become my inspiration that I am not too fat nor too old to achieve a lifelong dream. It has also given me the courage to speak out to use my own experiences to encourage others and attempt to change societal attitudes about those with morbid obesity. I can only speak for myself, but Upper GI has given me my life back. How do you say thank you for that?

Hi can you please let me know the next support group for sleeve patients. Does it matter where you had your sleeve?
    Thanks Anna

  4. Gemma Pearce says:

    Hi,

Just wondering if the support group has a website or online chat area ect, I am having a bypass with Dr Talbot on the 7th of November this year and would love to chat to his other patients.

    Cheers

When will the next support meeting be held?

  6. Adeline says:

I had Roux-n-y surgery in US and have move to Australia 3 years ago. I’ve gained weight and have trouble absorbing iron. I need help and need someone to talk to. Who can I go see for help in the St. George Area?

    • uppergisurgery says:

      Hi Adeline,

Dr Talbot will be happy to see you – please obtain a referral from your local GP and give us a call on 02 9553 1120 to schedule an appointment.

      Thanks

      The Upper GI Team
