Gastroscopy
Gastroscopy is a procedure performed to diagnose a number of conditions relating to the oesophagus, stomach and beginning of the small bowel.
Stomach ulcers, cancers and reflux are the typical conditions diagnosed. In most cases the procedure simply confirms the condition but on occasions treatment is possible via the endoscope.
Gastroscopy is usually performed as an outpatient or day-only procedure requiring sedation (a light anaesthetic).
