Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-pancreatography
ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-pancreatography) is an endoscopic procedure to examine the biliary tree and pancreas to diagnose and treat a number of conditions.
Although this procedure is often done on a “day only” basis it is a significant undertaking with risks that are similar to many operations.
Gallstones
Stones that fall out of or form outside of the gallbladder can sometimes best be removed by ERCP.
Pancreatitis
ERCP can be used in both Acute and Chronic pancreatitis to prevent and treat complications.
Cancers
Cancer of the pancreas and bile duct and cancers that have spread from elsewhere can block the bile ducts causing jaundice. ERCP can often be invaluable in alleviating symptoms and helping diagnose the problem.
