Hernia

Hernia repair is one of the most frequently performed “General Surgical” operations.

A hernia is a bulge of abdominal content (such as bowel or fat) through a weakened abdominal wall. These bulges may cause discomfort or pain and can occasionally be dangerous if bowel gets trapped and strangled inside the hernia.

There are many different types of hernia (see diagram) and there are also different methods used for successfully treating the condition. Hernias can be repaired by keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery, traditional operations with larger incisions or “minimal incision” open surgery.
